| ABOUT OBAMA |
| |
| Barack Obama Sr., and Ann Dunham gave birth to a healthy and intelligent son on August 4th, 1961, in Hawaii. They named him as Barack Obama. They had no idea that their son would one day earn his law degree from Harvard and become the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review. Little did they know that he would practice as a civil rights lawyer and teach constitutional law in Chicago. They had no inkling that their son would run for the Illinois State Senate and become the third African American since Reconstruction to be elected to the U.S.Senate. And they did not even dream that their son would one day run to become the President of the United States of America. But they knew that the boy's eyes glimmered with hope and joy. |

His smile exuded confidence and warmth. Whenever he spoke, his honest words rang with truth and conviction. His actions were not only for himself but for others also. They knew that one day their son would make America proud.
When Barack Obama proclaimed, "I'm asking you to believe. Not just in my ability to bring about real change in Washington . I'm asking you to believe in yours", then not only his parents but also the whole of America was proud of Barack Obama. They knew that only a true son of America could speak such words. A son who believed in the ability to unite people around a politics of purpose - a politics that puts solving the challenges of everyday Americans ahead of partisan calculation and political gain. A son who cared. Cared for global warming; cared for ethics reform that would root out Jack Abramoff-style corruption in Congress; cared to help Illinois veterans get the disability pay they were promised; cared to recognize the terrorist threat posed by weapons of mass destruction; cared for America's addiction to oil; cared for the genocide in Darfur; cared for the poverty exposed by Katrina; cared to speak out on the issues that will define America in the 21st century; cared to boldly stand up and chalk out a way to resolve these pressing issues.
Barack Obama is a family man with wife, Michelle and two daughters, Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7. He understands how difficult the last days of the month are when the household expenses are on a shoestring budget. Barack Obama is also highly educated, widely traveled, and it is with experience he says that the economy is in turmoil, with more and more families struggling to cope up with rising costs, falling incomes, and lost jobs. Throughout history, America has confronted constantly evolving danger. From the oppression of an empire to the lawlessness of the frontier, from the bombs that fell on Pearl Harbor to the threat of nuclear annihilation - Americans have adapted to the threats posed by an ever-changing world. America has always succeeded in making the correct choices. America will now also make the correct choice. The choices that are made in November 2008, and over the next few years will shape the next decade. As Barack Obama says, "This election could be the most important of our lifetime." The journey of Barack Obama to the White House depends on our choice, and our belief that the best is yet to come. |
